When preserving “harmony” leads to eternal enmity & hatred

Allah the Almighty said about His Prophet Ibrahīm:

﴿وَقَالَ إِنَّمَا ٱتَّخَذْتُم مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ أَوْثَـٰنًا مَّوَدَّةَ بَيْنِكُمْ فِى ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا ۖ ثُمَّ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ يَكْفُرُ بَعْضُكُم بِبَعْضٍ وَيَلْعَنُ بَعْضُكُم بَعْضًا وَمَأْوَىٰكُمُ ٱلنَّارُ وَمَا لَكُم مِّن نَّـٰصِرِينَ ﴿٢٥﴾ ﴾

He said [to his people], ‘You have taken idols [for worship] instead of Allah, only to keep [the bond of] harmony among yourselves in this worldly life. But on the Day of Judgment you will disown and curse one another. Your home will be the Fire, and you will have no helper!’

— Surat-Al-'Ankabut, verse 25

These idols today may be “land” or “wealth” or “desires” that groups of people love, while forgetting faith, and forgetting aqidah. And they deny what Allah has legislated or see it as a burden because of what it entails in terms of Walaa’ wal-Baraa’, i.e. loyalty and disavowal, and see it as an obstacle to this false bond of harmony.

Here Ibrahīm opens their eyes to the fact that this bond of affection at the expense of faith will lead to eternal enmity and hatred. An enmity from which they will not benefit at all. Rather, they will be partners in the torment and will not console each other as those who share torments do in this world, but rather each one of them will curse and revile the other because he sees that he has obstructed him from fulfilling the purpose for which he was created.

Allah said:

﴿وَلَن يَنفَعَكُمُ ٱلْيَوْمَ إِذ ظَّلَمْتُمْ أَنَّكُمْ فِى ٱلْعَذَابِ مُشْتَرِكُونَ ﴿٣٩﴾ ﴾

And never will it benefit you that Day, when you have wronged, that you are [all] sharing in the punishment.

—Surat-Az-Zukhruf, verse 39

And the Almighty said:

﴿قَالَ ٱدْخُلُوا۟ فِىٓ أُمَمٍ قَدْ خَلَتْ مِن قَبْلِكُم مِّنَ ٱلْجِنِّ وَٱلْإِنسِ فِى ٱلنَّارِ ۖ كُلَّمَا دَخَلَتْ أُمَّةٌ لَّعَنَتْ أُخْتَهَا ۖ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا ٱدَّارَكُوا۟ فِيهَا جَمِيعًا قَالَتْ أُخْرَىٰهُمْ لِأُولَىٰهُمْ رَبَّنَا هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ أَضَلُّونَا فَـَٔاتِهِمْ عَذَابًا ضِعْفًا مِّنَ ٱلنَّارِ ۖ قَالَ لِكُلٍّ ضِعْفٌ وَلَـٰكِن لَّا تَعْلَمُونَ ﴿٣٨﴾ ﴾

[Allāh] will say, ‘Enter among nations which had passed on before you of jinn and mankind into the Fire.’ Every time a nation enters, it will curse another. Until, when they have all overtaken one another therein, the latter will say about the former, ‘Our Lord! They have misled us, so multiply their torment in the Fire.’ He will answer, ‘For each one there is multiplied torment, but you do not know.’

The latter will curse the former, yet in this world it glorifies it and calls it “civilization” and abandons faith or some of its requirements out of reverence for it!
